“Up All Night, Templestowe”

Here, I paint over commissioned reproduction of a work by the beloved Heidelberg artist David Davies (“Nocturne, Templestowe ” 1896) – adding in our awkwardly posing monster, encroaching suburbs and a hellishly bright convenience store.

“Up All Night, Templestowe” is about monsters in the landscape, in history and in society.

It is painted on an existing landscape – filled with beauty and romanticism – and relegates it to being just a background.  Historically, culturally and visually this colonial “background” haunts and guides us.
